Veteran actor John Arcilla has urged the public to shift their attention from the ongoing family drama involving Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo and his mother, Angelica, to celebrating Yulo’s remarkable achievements.
The controversy began when Angelica Yulo’s social media posts seemed to favor her son’s competitors over him, sparking widespread discussion and debate online. The situation has intensified, drawing significant media attention and public scrutiny.
In a recent Instagram post, Arcilla emphasized the need to prioritize Yulo’s success. He wrote, “Sana i-celebrate na lang muna natin ang tagumpay ng kagilagilalas na si Carlos Yulo kahit isang buwan man lang o higit pa, kasi dahil sa kanya, nakaka-proud bilang Pilipino.” Arcilla stressed the importance of self-regulation in media, suggesting that the focus should remain on the national pride Yulo brings rather than the ongoing family dispute.
Arcilla continued, “Kahit hindi tayo propesyonal pwede naman tayong pumili kung saan angulo natin papaikutin ang usapin. Mas importante ba talaga na maka-scoop muna?” He called for a more positive focus, urging both media and the public to uplift Filipino athletes instead of amplifying their personal issues.
Reactions to Arcilla’s post varied among netizens. Some supported his call for a shift in focus, while others criticized how the media has handled the controversy.
