ABS-CBN Corporate Communications has issued a strong rebuttal against the Facebook page Pinoy History, which has over 1 million followers, for disseminating false information regarding the identity of the voice behind the popular reality show ‘Pinoy Big Brother’ (PBB), known as “Kuya.”
The network urged its audience not to believe the misleading claims, stating, “IYKYK, fake news ‘yan. Huwag maniwala, Kapamilya. ❤.”
The controversial post by Pinoy History suggested that the voice of “Kuya” belongs to Kapamilya Executive Director Laurenti Dyogi. It went further to assert that in situations where Dyogi is unavailable, voice actors are hired to impersonate him under a non-disclosure agreement. The post even claimed that there was a public incident where a voice actor impersonated Dyogi while he interacted with contestants in the confession room during a live broadcast.
Dyogi has consistently denied these claims. In a 2021 interview with Toni Gonzaga, he explained the rumors’ origin, saying, “I think the imprint that I left in the beginnings of Big Brother, because I was the one na kapag may kontrobersya, ako ‘yung haharap. Tapos Kuya is a good mimic, my intonation, my inflection.”
This is not the first instance of ‘Pinoy History’ facing backlash for misinformation. In 2022, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) criticized the page for inaccurate reporting on the ticket sales of the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).
Moreover, in 2023, Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray publicly condemned the page after it falsely claimed she would star in an upcoming film with Dingdong Dantes titled Papaano Kung ‘Di Namatay si Jose Rizal?
The continued circulation of false claims by Pinoy History has prompted calls for caution among social media users.
ABS-CBN emphasizes the importance of verifying information and urges the public to be discerning when consuming news from unofficial sources.
