LAS VEGAS – After two successive conferences of disappointment, the Magnolia Hotshots are determined to reverse their fortunes in the season-opening PBA Governors’ Cup.

As first reported by Grant Afseth of Essentially Sports, the Hotshots are bringing in former NBA player and slam dunk champion Glenn Robinson III.

The No. 40 pick in the 2014 NBA draft, Robinson played 304 games in the league where he averaged 5.9 points and 2.6 rebounds with stops in Minnesota, Philadelphia, Indiana, Detroit, Sacramento and the Golden State Warriors.

A Michigan alum, Robinson last played with the Wisconsin Herd in the G League. The son of NBA champion and two-time All-Star Glenn Robinson won the slam-dunk side event in 2017, beating Aaron Gordon, among others.

Robinson, 30-years old and listed at 6-6, is flying to Manila this Friday (Saturday, Manila time) to join the Hotshots. The pro league’s 49th season kicks off next month.

The Governors’ Cup has a 6-6 height limit for imports that will be scrapped come the Commissioner’s Cup next year.

Asfeth told SPIN.ph that Robinson’s four-month deal has an NBA opt-out which allows him to leave if he gets a call-up from the NBA.
