Kapamilya actor Enrique Gil seems to be facing challenges in reigniting his career after a period of relative inactivity.

Fans have recently noticed that Gil hasn’t been as visible in the entertainment scene as he used to be, leading to speculations about the reasons behind his seemingly lost drive to work.

In a recent vlog on ‘Showbiz Update,’ talent manager Ogie Diaz shared some insights on Gil’s current situation while speaking with his co-host, Mama Loi. The vlog, filmed in Italy, touched on the possible reasons for the actor’s reduced presence in the industry.

According to Diaz, Gil’s lack of enthusiasm might be linked to the disappointing performance of his comeback film, ‘I Am Not Big Bird,’ which was his first production in years. “Si Enrique ay nalungkot du’n sa outcome sa box-office ng ‘I am not Big Bird’ (produced ni Quen), e, yun pa naman ang kanyang unang sabak sa pagbabalik (showbiz) kaya lang hindi pinalad sa box-office (while asking Mama Loi), ‘nag-number one ba sa Netflix, hindi naman?,” Ogie revealed. He also mentioned that while the film is currently available on Netflix, it hasn’t garnered the expected level of success.

Mama Loi, curious about the film’s reception, asked if it had even been released on the streaming platform. Diaz confirmed its availability but noted that Gil was feeling “devastated” by its lack of commercial success.

Enrique’s career slowdown contrasts sharply with the busy schedules of his former colleagues. During the discussion, Ogie also touched on the actor’s ex-girlfriend, Liza Soberano, who has moved to a new management team in Singapore and is no longer based in the Philippines. With Soberano shifting to a more international career path, the discussion turned toward Gil’s current career trajectory.

Diaz also revealed that Gil was originally cast in the highly anticipated series ‘Incognito,’ alongside top actors Richard Gutierrez and Daniel Padilla. However, for reasons that remain unclear, Gil pulled out of the project. Mama Loi expressed disappointment, commenting on what a significant opportunity it would have been for the actor.

This career lull comes just months after Gil signed a new contract with ABS-CBN in April 2023, which many saw as a promising sign of his return to the spotlight. However, recent events, particularly the underwhelming reception of his comeback film, seem to have dampened his enthusiasm. “Oo, e, biglang natabangan na si Enrique, di ba kakapirma pa lang niya sa ABS-CBN (Abril, 2023) kung baga ginaganahan siya, pero sa takbo ng pangyayari ay parang nawawalan ng sigla si Enrique sa kanyang pagbabalik (showbiz),” Diaz noted.

Despite these challenges, fans are hopeful that Gil will bounce back with new projects. According to Diaz, there could still be opportunities waiting for him, but it remains to be seen whether Enrique will seize them and reclaim his position as one of the leading actors in Philippine cinema.

LionhearTV, meanwhile, remains open to hearing Enrique Gil’s side of the story as he navigates this phase of his career.
