Jude Bellingham told ‘likely’ outcome of UEFA investigation with England star facing Euro 2024 ban

Bellingham is under investigation for a gesture he made in England’s win over Slovakia.

Jude Bellingham has been told the ‘likely’ outcome of UEFA’s investigation into the gesture he made in England’s victory over Slovakia.

Bellingham was the hero for England on Sunday afternoon as they came from behind to win their round of 16 match in dramatic fashion.

The Real Madrid star equalised with an acrobatic overhead kick in the fifth minute of injury time, before Harry Kane scored the winner early on in extra time to send England through to the last eight of Euro 2024 with a 2-1 win.

Gareth Southgate’s side will now face Switzerland in Dusseldorf on Saturday but could be without Bellingham.

He is under investigation by UEFA for a crude gesture he made after scoring against Slovakia, which some have suggested was directed at the opposition bench.

The Real Madrid star has claimed it was merely a joke to friends watching in the stands.

“Nothing but respect for how that Slovakia team played tonight,” he posted on X, explaining his actions.

Nevertheless, UEFA has launched a probe into the matter, raising fears Bellingham could be suspended for the Switzerland game.

However, this is an unlikely outcome, according to The Mirror.

“No decision is expected quickly – the case against Serbia for one of their fans allegedly racially abusing England players was launched two weeks ago and is still outstanding – and it is unlikely Bellingham will get a ban,” claimed their report.

Bellingham will stand by his explanation that his gesture was an in-joke when UEFA quiz him on the matter this week.

European football’s governing body has written a letter to the England camp seeking a formal explanation, with Bellingham given three days to respond.

He is not the only player under investigation for making a gesture at Euro 2024.

Turkey star Merih Demiral is being probed after performing a ‘Wolf’s Salute’, a gesture associated with the Grey Wolves – a far-right extremist group, during Turkey’s round of 16 win over Austria on Tuesday night.
