Liverpool are considering making three summer signings as reason for rejected bid explained

A new report suggests Liverpool have ‘discussed’ strengthening three positions ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

It has been an unusually quiet transfer window for Liverpool, who remain the only Premier League club without a signing this summer.

In fact, they are the only team in Europe’s top five leagues to have not made a single addition since the window opened on June 14, which has naturally sparked concern amongst fans.

Arne Slot, however, remains calm about their activity in the window. “One of the reasons is me wanting to assess the players I have, which is difficult because most of them aren’t here,” he said on their pre-season tour.

“I’ve inherited a team that is really good so it’s not so easy to find players of the same standard or even higher. We are waiting for our players to come back and waiting for the right ones to sign.”

Liverpool are expected to spring into action once Slot is able to assess his squad in full after they return from time off following international competition.

So where are they looking to strengthen? A report from The Athletic claims they are ‘predominately looking at players aged 24 or under with a decent level of experience.’

In terms of positions, there have been discussions over bringing in a centre-back following the departure of Joel Matip, who left Anfield at the end of his contract in June.

An attacking wide player is also on the menu as well as a holding midfielder, although the latter may be difficult considering their stance on the position.

Liverpool recently turned down a bid from Marseille for Wataru Endo as they believe their are a lack of affordable, and suitable, No.6s on the current market.

If reports are to be believed, Slot is far from keen on letting Endo leave this summer. Marseille’s bid was nowhere near Liverpool’s valuation of the Japan international, according to Football Insider.

The report goes on: “It is believed Liverpool and manager Arne Slot are unwilling to weaken their midfield by allowing Endo to depart.”

Liverpool will face Ipswich Town in their Premier League opener on August 17. The transfer window will close on August 30 at 11pm UK time.
