LOSC made official on Friday the arrival of Belgian right-back Thomas Meunier. After activating his clause with Trabzonspor, the former PSG defender, 32, has signed with Lille until 2026.
A very eventful weekend at Losc. After announcing on Thursday the departure of its young central defender Leny Yoro to Manchester United for 62 million euros plus eight in bonuses, Lille announced a reinforcement on the right side of the Dogues’ rearguard. Thomas Meunier has signed with Losc until 2026. The Belgian international full-back is making his big return to Ligue 1, four years after leaving PSG to join Borussia Dortmund. Handicapped by injuries, the 32-year-old player with 66 caps for the Red Devils tried the Turkish challenge and joined Trabzonspor last February.
“It’s like I’m at home”
Relaunched in Turkey, he obtained his place at the Euro but did not play any matches due to an injury. After having terminated his contract at the last moment with Trabzonspor, Thomas Meunier therefore took up the Lille challenge: “Lille seemed like the perfect choice, from a sporting and family point of view, he explained on the Losc website. With its proximity to Belgium, it’s as if I were at home. My experience in the various European Cups will allow me to supervise the youngest players in the locker room and ensure that they are 100% focused on the sporting success of the club. I can’t wait to meet my teammates and the supporters!” Lille will start the Ligue 1 season on the Reims pitch.
