“THE REST IS HISTORY”, LAPORTE SAVOURS HIS REVENGE AGAINST CRITICS AFTER THE CORONATION OF LA ROJA

Having been crowned European champion with La Roja at the end of a solid competition on a personal level, Aymeric Laporte took great pleasure in responding to his detractors, many of whom criticised him before the Euro for his presence in the Saudi championship or his French origins.

He also took the time to return to these criticisms in a press conference, shortly after the final won against England (2-1). “There was everything. There was a lot of speculation. There was no information to have an opinion, a lot of bad information. (…) I was prepared,” he reacted in comments reported by Marca .

A high-quality Euro with La Roja

When he was called up for the tournament, the Spanish media had pointed out his possible lack of high-level competition, and expressed their doubts about the level of Saudi football. Aymeric Laporte managed to close the debate thanks to a high-flying Euro, and a particularly solid final.

The central defender of La Roja, a starter in six of the seven matches of his selection at the Euro, formed with Robin Le Normand a central hinge particularly criticized beyond the Pyrenees. The two players were also targeted for their French origins. Laporte had been called up three times by Didier Deschamps , but never played with the jersey of the Blues in A (19 caps in Espoirs).
