As Star Magic increasingly embraces the theater scene, ABS-CBN’s talent management arm officially welcomed the newest roster of theater actors as part of the family on October 16, 2024, at Coffee Project in Wil Tower Mall, Quezon City
The line-up includes an impressive array of talent: Julia Santiago, Vyen Villanueva, Jude Hinumdum, Miah Canton, Vino Mabalot, Lance Reblando, Teetin Villanueva, and Meann Espinosa.
These actors boast impressive credentials in both theater and television. When asked if they feel any pressure now that they’re officially part of Star Magic, Vyen Villanueva answered, “Definitely po. Because at the end of the day, meron pong reputation that you have to really ensure to show quality. Kaya nga po, Tatak Star Magic. But at the same time, kung wala po kasi yung pressure, wala po yung excitement for you to actually show yourself. Good pressure is important. Good pressure is necessary.”
Lance also answered and said, “Syempre, yes, may pressure kasi we all stand for something. Lahat kami may pinapaglaban. Lahat kami may nirerepresent na community… Yung Star Magic may reputation na, pero kalakip nun, parang hindi naman din kami kukunin dito kung wala kaming ibubuga.”
Meanwhile, Meann Espinosa wears many hats as an actor, director, choreographer, stage manager, and producer, but she is also a passionate teacher and workshop facilitator. Her work demonstrates that theater actors can excel as educators in both public and artist workshops.
“Yung pag-arte sa theater, meron talaga siyang kaakibat na skill na kailangang meron ka if you want to be a theater actor. Pero ganun din when you are a television and film actor. Minsan, may mga bagay, especially for those new to television, na parang how are they able to convey such a thing nang sobrang minimal lang na expressions yung ginagawa,” Meann shared.
Several of them appeared in 2023’s Tabing Ilog: The Musical and will reprise their roles in the rerun this November, including Vyen Villanueva, Jude Hinumdum, Miah Canton, Vino Mabalot, Lance Reblando, and Teetin Villanueva.
Star Magic expanding its horizons into theater shows that it celebrates the diverse talents of its newest members as well as underscores its commitment to nurturing and recognizing artists in every medium. With a lineup that includes seasoned performers and emerging talents alike, Star Magic hopes to make a significant impact in the theater community.
