Filipino rock singer Arnel Pineda has expressed disappointment over his recent performance at the Rock in Rio Music Festival in Brazil, sparking speculation that he might leave the American band Journey.
Pineda, who has been Journey’s frontman since 2008, apologized to fans in a heartfelt post on his Facebook page after a video of the performance went viral. Viewers noted his struggle to hit the high notes of the band’s classic hit ‘Don’t Stop Believin’,’ leading to mixed reactions online.
“Once again, thank you so much to everyone who came to the @journeyofficial shows since February this year. I appreciate you all. Every time I’m on stage with the band, I feel immense gratitude, humility, and honor. I am very aware of this,” Pineda wrote, acknowledging his supporters. He admitted feeling “devastated” over the performance.
In the same post, Pineda also opened up about his personal struggles, both mentally and emotionally, and posed a question to his fans regarding his future with the band. He asked if he should remain as Journey’s frontman or step down, offering fans the chance to vote “GO” or “STAY.”
“If ‘GO’ reaches 1 million, I’m stepping out for good… God bless all of you and thank you once again to all the fans and friends who believed in me since Day 1,” Pineda added.
Pineda, who replaced original lead singer Steve Perry in 2008, has had a successful run with the band, bringing new energy to Journey’s performances. However, his recent struggles on stage have raised questions about his future with the group.
