Unable to organize the Nations League match between Belgium and Israel, which was classified as very high risk, the Belgian Football Federation announced on Friday that the match will take place in Debrecen, Hungary, on September 6, behind closed doors.

Belgium’s home game against Israel for the opening day of the Nations League has been relocated to Debrecen, Hungary and will be played behind closed doors, the Belgian Federation announced on Friday.

“Given that in Belgium, no local administration considered it possible to organize the Red Devils ‘ home match against Israel on Friday, September 6, the Royal Belgian Football Union had to look for a solution abroad,” the RBFA explained in a statement.

A “very high risk” match

On June 19, the city of Brussels announced that the match would not be played at the King Baudouin Stadium. The authorities had deemed it “impossible to organize this very high-risk match” on the city’s territory due to tensions related to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In the process, other Belgian cities had also refused to host this match.
