Carmina Villarroel has addressed rumors about her family allegedly having a falling out with GMA Network, firmly denying any such claims during a media interview.
This speculation arose after her family, including husband Zoren Legaspi and their children Mavy and Cassy, were noticeably absent from the GMA Gala a few months ago.
Speaking to select members of the press during the finale press conference of the hit Kapuso afternoon series ‘Abot-Kamay Na Pangarap,’ Carmina clarified, “Why?May tampo kami? Wala, wala. Unang-una, bakit kami magkakaroon ng tampo sa GMA? They have been good to us. Ang tagal na namin sa kanila. They have been nice to us and we’re forever grateful to them.” She emphasized that the network has treated their family well and they are grateful for all the opportunities it has provided.
Carmina also explained that their absence from the GMA Gala was a personal choice and related to the controversies that their family faced at the time, particularly involving their son, Mavy, and his former girlfriend, actress Kyline Alcantara. The actress noted that they did not want to draw further attention to the situation, saying, “We just opted not to go and they knew, they knew naman talaga. Yun ang height ng isyu, so parang kami na lang ang umiwas. Yun nga ang sinasabi ko na, showbiz family kami, pero hindi kami showbiz.”
Despite the recent controversies, Carmina expressed no regrets about allowing her children, Mavy and Cassy, to enter showbiz. She highlighted that they’ve grown stronger as a family through these challenges, adding, “Ang importante at palagi ko ngang sinasabi sa kambal, in every problem or mga trials, ang importante roon, ang dami naming lesson along the way. At mas lalong tumibay ang pamilya. Na, okay, we’re unbreakable pala.”
As ‘Abot-Kamay Na Pangarap’ airs its final episodes this week, the cast, including Carmina, Jillian Ward, and others, became emotional during the press event. The long-running medical drama has been a staple of GMA Network’s Afternoon Prime block, and its conclusion marks the end of a successful run. The series finale will air after ‘It’s Showtime’ on GMA Network.
