The investigative documentary ‘Lost Sabungeros,’ which explores the mysterious disappearances of several cockfighters, is set to be screened at the upcoming QCinema International Film Festival in November.
This comes after the film’s previous cancellation due to security concerns.
QCinema announced the inclusion of ‘Lost Sabungeros’ in its Special Screenings section in a Facebook post on October 10. The festival will also showcase other notable films such as ‘An Errand’ by Dominic Baekart, ‘If My Lover Were a Flower’ by Kaung Zan, and ‘A Thousand Forests’ by Hanz Florentino.
“The Special Screenings section includes Lost Sabungeros… Each film presents a distinct narrative, adding depth and variety to the festival’s rich program,” QCinema shared.
‘Lost Sabungeros,’ directed by Bryan Brazil, was originally slated for its premiere at Cinemalaya 2024 in August, but its screening was canceled due to alleged security concerns. The film sheds light on the unsolved disappearances of sabungeros, a case that has garnered national attention.
Following the cancellation, the Director Guild of the Philippines, Inc. (DGPI) issued a statement condemning the use of intimidation tactics aimed at silencing filmmakers. The film’s producers also expressed concerns about the growing pressure on creative freedom in the country.
Despite these challenges, ‘Lost Sabungeros’ will now make its debut at QCinema, offering audiences a gripping look into one of the country’s most unsettling mysteries.
