Fans and critics are raving about Mikoy Morales’ gripping performance in a recent episode of the hit GMA Network’s historical drama ‘Pulang Araw.’

Many viewers are calling for him to receive the Best Actor award following his intense portrayal of Tasyo in a harrowing torture scene that aired during episode 41.

In this particular episode, Mikoy’s character, Tasyo, finds himself captured alongside his friend Eduardo, played by Alden Richards. The story escalates as Col. Yuta Saitoh, portrayed by Dennis Trillo, mistakenly believes that Eduardo is hiding his American father, leading to the brutal treatment of both characters at the hands of Japanese soldiers in Fort Santiago.

The tension peaks as Tasyo endures excruciating torture, including the insertion of needles into his fingers.

Viewers were left shocked and emotionally moved by the scene, praising Mikoy’s ability to convincingly convey pain and suffering.

In an interview with ’24 Oras,’ Mikoy expressed the emotional impact of the scene, sharing how it affected him personally. “Siyempre kilabot sa akin to learn about it, [to] learn ‘yung scene, ‘yung hearing all these things that happened before and bring it back to life. Medyo iba ‘yung dating sa akin,” he said.

Mikoy also discussed the practical effects used to enhance the scene’s realism, revealing that prosthetics played a key role. “Malaking tulong ‘yung prosthetics. May dinagdag na finger ‘yun e. So when they put in the nail, hindi pumapasok sa kuko ko ‘yun pero nararamdaman ko pa rin siya,” he explained. He credited the presence of his co-stars, Alden Richards and Dennis Trillo, for providing support during the emotionally charged shoot.

As the storyline unfolds, viewers can look forward to seeing Eduardo and Tasyo’s attempts to escape from their captors. ‘Pulang Araw’ poignantly highlights the struggles faced by Filipinos during Japanese occupation in World War II and the resilience required for survival.
