Nesthy Petecio won against French boxer Amina Zidani in front of the hometown crowd on early Saturday (Philippine time) at the North Paris Arena.
Petecio won via points, 30-27, 28-29, 29-28, 29-28, 29-28, to book a slot in the quarterfinals of the women’s boxing 57kg event.
With the first round taken by Zidani and the second round won by Petecio, the third round was a decisive and close one for both boxers.
As the final decision was announced, Petecio was just ecstatic as she shouted for joy, while Zidani was left surprised with the announcement.
