Anton Ignacio, once the Philippines’ youngest professional jet ski racer at 13, has made waves internationally, capturing the Pro Am Roundabout 1100 Stock 2024 International Jet Sports Boating Association (IJSBA) World Finals in Arizona, USA.
This recent victory makes Ignacio a two-time world champion, reinforcing his status as a rising star in the sport and earning pride for the Philippines on the global stage.
Ignacio’s path to becoming a world champion has been marked by dedication and sacrifice. Balancing his studies with the rigorous demands of training, the 18-year-old acknowledges the personal sacrifices he’s made. “I have to sacrifice my time with family and friends, and even had to miss some classes,” Ignacio admitted at a press conference. “But for me, all of this is worth it—all the hard work and sacrifices.”
More than just a personal victory, Ignacio’s latest win brings a renewed sense of pride for his supporters in the Philippines. “Crossing that finish line was a feeling that will stick with me forever,” he said. “More than the win, I feel like I made a lot of people proud back home.”
Growing up in a family with a rich history in jet ski racing, Ignacio was first introduced to the sport by his father, Robert Ignacio, a former national jet ski champion. Recalling Anton’s early experience, Robert said, “We have a beach house in Mindoro. Anton was hesitant at first, but once he tried riding on his own, he fell in love with the sport.”
Ignacio’s early training was furthered by three-time world champion Paul Del Rosario, who has been one of his key mentors. His mother, Joyce Ignacio, initially had concerns about her son’s involvement in the demanding sport but is now fully supportive of his achievements. “I was hesitant at first, but when he won, I was so happy. I couldn’t help but cry—it’s the best feeling,” Joyce shared.
With his recent victory, Ignacio hopes to inspire a new generation of Filipino jet ski racers. “I want to spread the word and show people that this sport is worth trying,” he said, adding that he sees potential among young Filipino athletes.
Set to compete next in Pattaya, Thailand this December, Anton Ignacio’s journey from a young enthusiast to a world champion serves as an inspiring reminder of what can be achieved through hard work, dedication, and family support.
