IT’S up to PBA teams to take a risk if it would tap players with existing contracts in the MPBL.

Commissioner Willie Marcial said the league allows MPBL players who applied in the draft to be picked by PBA teams, but stand the risk of waiting for their services until their respective deals expire.

“Ina-allow natin mag-apply sa draft kahit may contracts sila. So nasa teams na yun kung susugalan nila yung player,” said Marcial at the end of the two-day Draft Combine at the Ynares Sports Arena on Thursday.

Case in point is possible top pick Justin Baltazar who has an existing contract with the Pampanga Giant Lanterns until December.

The 28-year-old Baltazar disclosed he intends to finish his MPBL deal before answering the services of which team will pick him up in the draft.

But Marcial said there are also other cases where MPBL teams will allow players to see action straight in the PBA once they are drafted.

The Commissioner’s though, didn’t mention any specific players

“May mga ganun ring kaso. Pag ganun, walang problema yun.”
