Ederson releases statement in response to claims he’s been ‘affected’ by praise for Stefan Ortega

Manchester City star Ederson has broken his silence.

Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has released a statement in response to claims that he has been affected by the praise given to Stefan Ortega.

So far this summer, Ederson has been heavily linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium.

It has been reported that Saudi Professional League club Al Ittihad are interested in signing the Brazilian but City are set to require a transfer fee of at least £50 million to part ways with their number one.

A recent article on Ederson’s situation from Sam Lee of The Athletic claims that the former Benfica man was affected by praise for Ortega.

Ortega made a huge save in City’s run to another Premier League title after he denied Son Heung Min during their 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

On Thursday, Ederson’s wife Lais Moraes took to social media to rubbish those claims.

Now, Ederson himself has broken his silence on the matter.

Posting on his Instagram story, the 30-year-old wrote: “Clarifying that the note published by The Athletic yesterday refers to whether my alleged dissatisfaction with a colleague.

“It is completely false, The supposed reported day was without a doubt, one of the hardest days of my career, when I suffered a fracture that prevented me from playing in the final stretch of the season and consequently representing my country in Copa America.”

It continued: “At the time of the injury, my thought was only to continue in the match, defending City in the contest for the conquered title, but the emotion of the match would be greater than reality and fatally, I would have no way to continue as I would like because of the damage it caused, completely hindering my field of vision.

“I stay focused on the preparation of the season. EM31.”

After City’s 4-3 defeat by Celtic in North Carolina, Pep Guardiola spoke about Ederson’s future.

He said: “I’d like him to stay but it depends on other clubs.

“I don’t know the situation. There have been no contacts in the last days. It’s a question of training, being with us until the transfer window finishes and we’ll see.”
