TV host and actress Chris Aquino has returned to the Philippines after more than two years of medical treatment in the United States for a complex array of autoimmune illnesses. Aquino, who has been open about her health struggles, confirmed her return in a social media post, explaining she needs to begin a new round of “immunosuppressant infusions,” a gentler term for chemotherapy, in the coming weeks.

Aquino’s youngest son, Bimby, confirmed in earlier interviews that his mother was “getting better,” but acknowledged the difficult road to recovery. He emphasized the challenging nature of the medications and praised his mother’s strength and fighting spirit. He also shared the family’s excitement about Aquino’s return, noting how much she missed her family and friends in the Philippines.

Binan City Congresswoman Len Alonte, a close friend of Aquino, confirmed her arrival on Friday morning with Bimby. Her eldest son, Josh, is currently staying with another close friend, Anne Binay.

In her social media post, Aquino detailed her diagnoses, which include autoimmune thyroiditis, chronic spontaneous urticaria, Schnitzler’s syndrome (a rare form of vasculitis), systemic sclerosis, lupus, and rheumatoid arthritis. She is also awaiting results for two additional suspected autoimmune conditions.

Beyond the proximity to family and friends, Aquino stated that she needs the emotional support system her loved ones provide, especially as she faces this critical phase of her treatment. She candidly described her current battle to protect her vital organs as “the fight of her life.”

Aquino also mentioned that her boyfriend, a doctor based in Makati, played a role in her decision to return, providing her with added confidence in her ability to continue treatment in the Philippines. She previously revealed undergoing an MRI, a procedure she’d been apprehensive about, as a crucial step in determining her eligibility to return. Only three hospitals in the Philippines are equipped and authorized to import the specific medications required for her treatment.
